Red, White and Blue

Monday, 11 April 2016

Oh the joys of being pregnant. Your immune system turns to crap and even if you so much as look at someone with a cold, BAM! You've caught it. I'm a sniffly, gross mess right now so I figured it would make me feel slightly less crappy posting a summery OOTD from a time where I wasn't a snifflebag.

Sometimes you have to sacrifice something in order to make your outfit feel whole. In this case, I sacrificed a practical handbag so I could wear this one that barely fits my phone and purse. Worth it.

These photos were taken not very long ago when I was a little less pregnant and a little more fat and the sun could set your skin on fire. I don't miss the heat but I do miss it being warm enough to wear dresses with bare legs. Most of the time I forget that there are still a lot of plus size girls that have a fear of showing their bare legs. I guess I got so comfortable in my body that I can be a little ignorant to peoples insecurities and expect them to love their beautiful selves like they deserve to. It's a process that can take time. Sometimes a lot of time. I forget the insecurities I had growing up. I remember hating my legs. They were 'too chunky'. I would always wear jeans because of that. Fast forward 10 years later and look at me wearing dresses showing off my lil plus size pins!

Self love takes time. I've always been a bit of a narcissist so for me the path to body positivity was kind of on fast forward haha
I've always wanted to discuss the road to body positivity but I've never known where to begin and how to structure what I want to say because theres a lot to cover. If you have any suggestions, let me know and maybe I can start a blog series of questions or something? Idk, but lets do something fun!

Neon Spots

Wednesday, 30 March 2016

Well well! My first outfit post since my pregnancy hiatus haha
The past few months have been super rough for me. The best way I can describe it is that its been like the worst hangover you've ever had... for nearly three months straight. I have been so sick and nauseous that I haven't wanted to do anything and when I did want to do stuff, I didn't have the energy to. That included looking at all forms of social media. You wouldn't think holding your phone and scrolling would take up energy, but holy shit it really burns up your mental energy. I cut down my use of social media drastically and couldn't really explain why, so It made me feel like a bit of a jerk because I wasn't really posting things and I wasn't really responding to people. I'm trying to make my way through the messages I've received in that time so forgive me if I haven't written back!

While I may not be feeling 100% better and still not completely out of this nausea slump, my mind feels like it can focus on other things again. I've been absolutely dying to try new outfits and go shopping for maternity clothes! Since I was feeling so poorly I pretty much wore the same thing every day at home and when I would have to go out of the house and look presentable, I would wear the same outfit. You could find me in either slouchy PJ's or a stretchy shift dress. I didn't realise how much my body had transformed from the weight loss so now that I've started trying to change up what I'm wearing, I've realised nothing fits me anymore and everything is getting really baggy! It's so weird! It's also super frustrating because I cant really buy anything new because my belly is going to keep growing so I don't know what shape I'll be in the next 9 months haha
I'm going to be needing A LOT of stretchy clothes to take me through the next few months!

I'm excited to start shopping for some clothes that will transition from maternity wear to regular wear but don't know where to start looking! If you know of any physical stores in Australia that sell cute maternity wear, let me know!

Orthodox Christmas Haziness

Sunday, 7 February 2016

I am so pleased to say, I have posted all older OOTD's and blogs and such and am now back on track to regular posts! YAY! I am so excited to take more new photos! I had everything on pause for a little while so I didn't get backlogged with photos all over again.

On January the 7th it was Orthodox Christmas. That's right. Another Christmas. The reason behind this is described well by Google..

Many Orthodox Christians in Australia celebrate Christmas Day on or near January 7 in the Gregorian calendar. This date works to be December 25 in the Julian calendar, which pre-dates the Gregorian calendar. It is a time to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, who is believed to be the son of God.

The way people celebrate Orthodox Christmas varies. For some it involves going to church, fasting, prayers, etc, but the most important thing (just like regular Christmas) is trying to make time to spend the day with your family. Oh and theres always a feast. But really, theres always a fest at any wog occasion, so its not really a surprise haha
We went to my grandparents house with the fam and had a massive lunch. It's kind of hard to have a 'massive' lunch when you've got a lapband, but you do what you can. It's also especially hard when your wog grandma still doesn't fully understand the concept of lapband so she's borderline offended that you didn't stack your plate completely full and then go back for another round later haha

Wogmas, as Sam and I like to call it, used to be a little more exciting as a kid. You'd have celebrated regular christmas a few weeks before, then the excitement from that all wore off, then you have this second Christmas and get more presents and cash so you're buzzing! That pretty much ends when you become a teenager though. Shattered.

After we had finished the rounds of food, Sam, my sister, my cousin and I had a savage game of Cards Against Humanity. Probably the worst game you could play on Christmas, but its seriously the absolute best!

What would a day out be without taking an OOTD? It was particularly hot that day so I opted for cool comfort. I had been looking for shorts like this for freaking AGES! Something tight, not boxy like most plus size shorts are and something that sits above my knees. I found these in the funniest way...my mums sewing room. A few days before she had been complaining about a pair of pants she had bought that had started tearing at the thighs from chub rub (something that us plus size girls would know all too well). The tear became a massive hole on either side of the pants making them unwearable. Mum decided to cut the legs off at the tear and turn them into shorts! Absolute genius! I don't know why I never thought to do that! Turns out it ripped at the perfect length for me so I claimed them haha

Sam said I looked like a tough biker chick haha

Who says fat girls cant wear short shorts and show their arms? FUCK THAT! It's when I wear outfits like this that I feel fabulous AF.

Did anyone else celebrate Orthodox Christmas? What did you get upto?

Wishing For Swimwear

Sunday, 17 January 2016

In my previous post I mentioned my annoyance at swimwear and how it doesn't usually meet the requirements I need met. To be fair though whenever I have needed swimwear it's pretty much the day before I need it, so I have to run around to the shops and search for something, ANYTHING that just fits. I've never thought about buying bathers online because I've never really needed them often enough to spend more than $20 on it. Recently though, I signed up to a gym mostly because of the pool access, so I'm going to need to invest in some bathers that don't look old. I posted a photo to instagram of me in my bathers before a pool sesh and it's noticeable that the tankini is getting a bit loose. When I got in the pool it just started floating up and up... AWKWARD. So now I've discovered that its slim pickin's for my current swimwear choices because my old bathers are too big! It's still not something I can spend much money on because of my situation right now and priorities, but a girl can window shop and dream right?

Since discovering I only have 2 things I can wear to the pool, I started compiling a swimwear wishlist. I thought it would be hard to find things I liked even online, but it looks like I had no problem haha

Capriosca

1. Capriosca - Twist Front Bandeau
2. Capriosca - Jade Swimsuit
3. Capriosca - Frilled Tankini Top

1. Capriosca - High Neck Crop Top & Bottoms (Chlorine Resistant)
2. Capriosca - Underwire Tankini Top - Black Retro Check Swimsuit
3. Capriosca - High Neck Crop Top Waves Swimsuit (Chlorine Resistant)

Swimsuits For All

1. GabiFresh for Swim Sexy - The Countess Underwire Swimsuit
2. GabiFresh - The Tsarina Underwire Bikini
3. GabiFresh - Paradise Found Underwire Mid-Waist Bikini

1. Tropiculture - Sancerre Underwire Swimsuit
2. Swim Sexy - Blue Tiger Bandeau/Halter High Waist Bikini
3. Tropiculture - Striped Underwire Swimsuit

These are my top picks. Most of the ones I chose have underwire and supportive straps and the others I chose because they're so cute even if they wont help me at all haha

Do you have any fave places to shop for bathers?

BEACH BESTIES

Monday, 11 January 2016

Flashback to hanging out at the beach a little while ago! Yay! Sam and I went to the beach with our bffs a couple of weeks before I had my lapband surgery. It was such a fun day!

I hadn't seen my bestie for a little while so we finally got to catch up and talk shit which is always the best time. She was also scheduled to get lapband a couple of weeks after I had my surgery so we discussed a lot of stuff to do with that as well...What plastic surgery would you get? Will you wear even LESS at the beach? What are you going to miss eating? All of those important questions.

One thing I hate about going to the beach is the swimwear. I can never seem to find any bathers that fit AND support me. If they fit, they don't support and if they'd be perfect at supporting, they wont fit! UGH! It's so annoying! My makeshift way to hate the experience less is to just wear a bra underneath, but that's almost even more annoying. I only have a couple of pairs of bathers because the experience is exhausting and expensive, so I just deal with the ones I have. That being said though, when I'm a more stable size I'd love to properly look for some cuter bathers that tick all the boxes. Not going to lie, I already have a wishlist happening haha I might post it on here before the swimming season is over just incase anyone is in the market for some cute bathers.

Sam wasn't pleased that he had to be our photographer for the day haha

THIS IS WHY WE CANT HAVE NICE THINGS!
This jerk always pulling a face in nice photos haha

I cant wait to go back to the beach with my friends and hope I get a chance to before summer is over

Whats your fave plus size swimwear brand? Oh and btw, did you know Seafolly goes up to a sz 18?!

NYE Party Outfit!

Friday, 1 January 2016

And by party I mean night in with the family (like most other nights haha)

I know I said I was going to post older OOTDs before I got to new ones but this was too time relevant to delay.

New Years Eve was pretty relaxed over at my house. Sam and I don't really 'party' so we don't go clubbing or anything like that for new years. NYE for the last few years has been spent with family. I believe the way you end the year helps reflect how the new year will go (to an extent), so I always try to make it relaxed and not put myself in a position where I'd get annoyed (and if i went clubbing I'd be super annoyed haha) so staying in with the fam is always a great idea. This also goes for my outfit. I read somewhere years and years ago that the colours you wear to bring in the new year influence how your year will be. Something like colour therapy. It might be a load of crap, but no matter if I'll be out or staying in on new years I get dressed to feel how I want the year ahead to feel so thats what I base my NYE outfits on. It may sound silly, but hey, if it helps bring some more happiness to the year, whatevs.

So for this years outfit I had the words happy, playful, cute and adventurous in mind.

Romper: Jay Jays  //  Shoes: Adidas

I found this romper while shopping the crazy sales that have been going on and thought it was perfect for the occasion. I usually hate rompers but this year I want to be more adventurous in the clothes I choose and well, the pattern was just too damn cute. I want to try and take life a little less seriously and do all the things I held back on doing last year. I'm going to write up a 2016 checklist that I'll keep updating throughout the year with the fun things I have planned.

I can't wait to get things started!
