Selfishness in Pregnancy

Wednesday, 3 August 2016

In this pregnancy, I have become really selfish.
All I have wanted to do is cross stitch, chill out at home, go out for lunch with Sam and hang out with my family. Apparently that is selfish. I have been 'neglecting' social media. I still scroll through my instagram feed and check snapchats and stuff but only quickly and mostly while on the toilet (not gunna lie. As if you don't do it too). I just don't like picking up my phone anymore. I realised that I had become so attached to my phone and didn't want to carry a bad habit into motherhood. I found that I was opening instagram, scrolling through everything, closing the app and then reopening it right away without thinking. I had to stop!

Since my work contract finished up a couple of months ago (a bit earlier than I had expected), I knew I needed to use this time for me exclusively. I don't know how motherhood will change me and the way that my routines work and the things that I'll do in the day so I figured I had to use the time before baby is here to be as gluttonous for relaxation as possible. So far it has been absolutely fucking amazing. I went through a period in my life where I was unemployed for a while and I got so bored and restless that I became severely depressed. I feared that would happen again this time and not having a job or any real responsibilities would make me go crazy, but it has been the complete opposite. I take my sweet time with anything I do right now and it's just super refreshing not feeling rushed or pressured. I know this may all change once baby is here so I'll try not to get too used to it but for now I'm enjoying the selfishness.

As I said, I haven't been too present on social media, and I don't know how present I will be in the future, so we'll just have to see how we go.

Til next time...

Leopard By The River

Wednesday, 6 July 2016

I thought in this pregnancy I would be so keen to dress really cute and show off my bump but in reality all I've wanted to do is sit in my pjs. I will wear pj's whenever I possibly can. My look is not as glam as I was expecting it to be haha
A couple of weeks ago Sam and I went out for lunch because I was having some mad cravings for a chicken burger. But it had to be from this one cafe on the other side of town. No other chicken burger was acceptable. Being the sweetheart he is, he obliged. After lunch we went to sit and relax by the Yarra River, so of course I made him take a few bump photos in front of the beautiful backdrop.

The belly is growing and has grown a bit more since then but it's still pretty tiny! It feels like I could still hide the bump if I wanted to which makes me laugh. Whenever I pictured myself as pregnant I would see myself with a massive belly wearing beautiful flowy dresses but it's been the opposite. Teeny belly and bodycon dresses. Maybe I'll look like what I was picturing at the end of my pregnancy...

I have been slack with all forms of social media but thats not to say I haven't been thinking about blogging. I have a few things I've been wanting to post about but every time I go to write anything it feels like my mind turns to mush so it's felt exceptionally hard especially because I haven't been getting 'dressed up' to take accompanying outfit photos. I'll see how I go but I'm not going to put pressure on myself to post content. Going to take all this stuff as it comes.

Red, White and Blue

Monday, 11 April 2016

Oh the joys of being pregnant. Your immune system turns to crap and even if you so much as look at someone with a cold, BAM! You've caught it. I'm a sniffly, gross mess right now so I figured it would make me feel slightly less crappy posting a summery OOTD from a time where I wasn't a snifflebag.

Sometimes you have to sacrifice something in order to make your outfit feel whole. In this case, I sacrificed a practical handbag so I could wear this one that barely fits my phone and purse. Worth it.

These photos were taken not very long ago when I was a little less pregnant and a little more fat and the sun could set your skin on fire. I don't miss the heat but I do miss it being warm enough to wear dresses with bare legs. Most of the time I forget that there are still a lot of plus size girls that have a fear of showing their bare legs. I guess I got so comfortable in my body that I can be a little ignorant to peoples insecurities and expect them to love their beautiful selves like they deserve to. It's a process that can take time. Sometimes a lot of time. I forget the insecurities I had growing up. I remember hating my legs. They were 'too chunky'. I would always wear jeans because of that. Fast forward 10 years later and look at me wearing dresses showing off my lil plus size pins!

Self love takes time. I've always been a bit of a narcissist so for me the path to body positivity was kind of on fast forward haha
I've always wanted to discuss the road to body positivity but I've never known where to begin and how to structure what I want to say because theres a lot to cover. If you have any suggestions, let me know and maybe I can start a blog series of questions or something? Idk, but lets do something fun!

Orthodox Christmas Haziness

Sunday, 7 February 2016

I am so pleased to say, I have posted all older OOTD's and blogs and such and am now back on track to regular posts! YAY! I am so excited to take more new photos! I had everything on pause for a little while so I didn't get backlogged with photos all over again.

On January the 7th it was Orthodox Christmas. That's right. Another Christmas. The reason behind this is described well by Google..

Many Orthodox Christians in Australia celebrate Christmas Day on or near January 7 in the Gregorian calendar. This date works to be December 25 in the Julian calendar, which pre-dates the Gregorian calendar. It is a time to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, who is believed to be the son of God.

The way people celebrate Orthodox Christmas varies. For some it involves going to church, fasting, prayers, etc, but the most important thing (just like regular Christmas) is trying to make time to spend the day with your family. Oh and theres always a feast. But really, theres always a fest at any wog occasion, so its not really a surprise haha
We went to my grandparents house with the fam and had a massive lunch. It's kind of hard to have a 'massive' lunch when you've got a lapband, but you do what you can. It's also especially hard when your wog grandma still doesn't fully understand the concept of lapband so she's borderline offended that you didn't stack your plate completely full and then go back for another round later haha

Wogmas, as Sam and I like to call it, used to be a little more exciting as a kid. You'd have celebrated regular christmas a few weeks before, then the excitement from that all wore off, then you have this second Christmas and get more presents and cash so you're buzzing! That pretty much ends when you become a teenager though. Shattered.

After we had finished the rounds of food, Sam, my sister, my cousin and I had a savage game of Cards Against Humanity. Probably the worst game you could play on Christmas, but its seriously the absolute best!

What would a day out be without taking an OOTD? It was particularly hot that day so I opted for cool comfort. I had been looking for shorts like this for freaking AGES! Something tight, not boxy like most plus size shorts are and something that sits above my knees. I found these in the funniest way...my mums sewing room. A few days before she had been complaining about a pair of pants she had bought that had started tearing at the thighs from chub rub (something that us plus size girls would know all too well). The tear became a massive hole on either side of the pants making them unwearable. Mum decided to cut the legs off at the tear and turn them into shorts! Absolute genius! I don't know why I never thought to do that! Turns out it ripped at the perfect length for me so I claimed them haha

Sam said I looked like a tough biker chick haha

Who says fat girls cant wear short shorts and show their arms? FUCK THAT! It's when I wear outfits like this that I feel fabulous AF.

Did anyone else celebrate Orthodox Christmas? What did you get upto?

Holy Grail Jeans

Sunday, 24 January 2016

While in Sydney (posts about that coming soon!) I found the most perfect jeans ever and now I regret not having bought all of the other pairs they had as backups.

I was sussing out Forever 21's lacking plus size section when I found these jeans. They're more like jeggings I guess because they're so soft and really stretchy. I'm so glad I gave them a go and tried them on. You don't even understand how happy I was to find a pair of jeans that fit, let alone looked so perfect! I've been wearing them almost every day since I bought them and now with the weight loss they're starting to get a little loose. I'm dreading the day I cant wear them anymore.

To avoid having to go through the pain of not being able to wear them when they don't fit anymore I tried finding them online. Turns out the code that was on the tag (Yes, I saved the tag, just incase I was ever in this situation haha) is useless because the Forever 21 website is America based so their codes are different. WHYYYY?! UGH. I'll have to just buy all the jeggings that are available on their website when that day comes and test them all out.

Do you have a pair of holy grail jeans that you'd be lost without?

Keith Haring Mural OOTD

Thursday, 21 January 2016

I thought I had lost these photos forever! It turns out they were just in the wrong folder all along...
These photos were taken a couple of months back when Sam and I took my folks to Phamily Kitchen (a fantastic Vietnamese food place on Smith St in Collingwood). We ate some good food, had some good chats but we were ready to have some good coffee. We had been to this cafe Proud Mary before and it was great but I think they had closed for the day or something (this was really late in the afternoon) and remembered they had a sister store called Aunty Pegs. We ventured off to find Aunty Pegs and on the way found the historic Keith Haring Mural! I was so excited! First thing I did was message my sister to be jealous as she had recently become obsessed with him. I think I just wrote 'sucked in' and attached a photo haha

The mural is just so fricking cool! From what I remember my sister telling me about it was that the general message behind the mural was something along the lines of 'Make sure you have fun at university and in your schooling, but remember the most important thing is your education' (which is why the computer brain worm thing is at the top). It was painted on one of the walls of the old Collingwood Technical College. She learnt that in her art class and I don't know how true it is because I couldn't find anything about that online but I'm rolling with it because it makes sense when you look at the mural & where it was painted and its just generally a smart message.

There was a information plaque which had some cool info on it but the photo I took of it wasn't the best. It said:

In 1984 New York artist and social activist Keith Haring (1958-1990) undertook a number of public art projects during a three week visit to Australia. In Melbourne these included painting the National Gallery of Victoria's waterwall and completing this mural on the wall of what was then Collingwood Technical School. The NGV's waterwall project  was an ephemeral work and survives through photographic documentation only. This mural is now a much loved and important part of Melbourne's cultural landscape. So much that in 2004 it was added to the Victorian Heritage Register.

In 2010 management of this precinct was taken on by Arts Victoria and a conservation plan for the mural was commissioned. The plan identified the need for urgent conservation works to the mural, which had deteriorated due to weather exposure. In 2013 internationally renowned conservator Antonio Rava undertook treatment that restored visibility and vitality to the mural.

Photography and respectful engagement with the mural is welcomed.

Talk about iconic, right? Keith Haring was a badass artist.

After the excitement of the mural we went to Aunty Pegs and tried cold brew coffee for the first time. It was weird but wonderful! The guy that was helping us out (I feel like such a jerk, I forgot his name! Damn it!) let us sample a few brews and then gave us a little tour. It was pretty fricking cool. If you're around the area and love coffee, I suggest you go and check it out!

Gotta love Melbourne!
